Target audience

I believe that my primary audience will be female teenagers aged 14-25. I have came to this conclusion as when gathering peer feedback I interviewed both male and female teenagers. I discovered that the male I interviewed had never listened to 'Marina and the diamonds', who is the main inspiration for my own music video, he had also didn't enjoy listening to music of the electricpop genre. The social class that my target audience categorise in is the C1, C2, D and E region. I think this as the majority of my primary audience will either be in full time education and could also possible have a simple job in retail.

My storyboard: Target audience feedback

Bob Dylan: Storyboard

I watched a documentary on Bob Dylan so I was able to gather inspiration from it. Watching this educated me on what will make my own video on audience feedback successful. I am going to create a storyboard of my own in order to organise what questions I will ask, camera angles, soundtracks and diverse clips that could be added.Creating my own interview on target audience will allow me to practise creating a storyboard and familiarising myself with video editing software. I believe that this will be a beneficial experience as I will be creating a music promotion video for the main task.

More video inspiration

I particularly love the editing used in this music video. It is apparent that whilst the artist is singing in the ballroom there is another video playing at the same time but faintly so she still remains the main focus of the video. I believe that this was used to show the narrative of the song whilst also allowing viewrs to see the artist preform. I am considering using this technique in my own video as it will suit the tone of 'teen idle' given that the mood of the song switches from positive to negative. For example, I interpertate that the lyrics of 'Marina and the diamonds - Teen idle' are to show how the artist feels as if she wasted her teenage years rather than getting herself involved, i.e being the prom queen. So a possible idea to include in my video is to capture a scene of the teenage girl in a prom dress, whilst the main video playing will be of her being a 'teen idle', either smoking or simply sitting at the dressing table.

Rough shot list

Rather than having a narration in my music promotion video I am going to take a series of diverse clips and edit them together, taking inspiration from artists such as: Lana del rey, Marina and the diamonds and Sky Ferreira.

First scene:
There will be a teenage girl sitting in her bedroom at a dressing table, applying makeup and holding blonde hair extensions to her brunette hair. My ultimate goal is to represent the lyrics 'I wanna be a bottle blonde' and 'I wanna be a real fake' however I think that I will be able to capture interesting camera angles through the mirrors reflections which will give my video interesting visual impact. Another possible idea is to include fabric, my prom dress, to fit with the lyrics 'wish I'd been a prom queen fighting for the title' and also a lipstick print on the mirror.

As for editing I am definitely going to take inspiration from the video 'Lana del rey - Burning desire' and show two diverse clips in the same frame which are entirely opposite.

Second scene:
Walking through the woods and simply lying in a field; I am debating whether or not to pose the teenage girl featured as if she is drinking alcohol and smoking whilst lying in the grass to emphasise the title of the song - 'Teen idle'.

Third scene:
I've decided to shoot a handful of scenes at the beach as ultimitaley, the surrondings are visually appealing. I have taken inspiration from 'Lana del rey' videos as she has proven that the location where particular scenes are shot is what make the video succesful.

Fourth scene:
I am shooting my model looking out of a car window whilst it is raining. I believe that it adds mood and depth to my music video and captures how the artist of the song was trying to express how she often felt as if she'd missed opportunities, thus was reflecting back on this things she could have done. I believe that incorporating pathetic fallacy would definitely portray these emotions.

Peer feedback on pitch and blog progress

After reading all of my feedback I noticed two recurring points: location shots and using other media programmes to present my ideas. Since gaining these responses I have began to create a video on 'Animoto.com' to show what I hairstyles and makeup I am considering. I am also good to create a mood board which will show the locations I am currently brainstorming, for now I will gather these photographs from the internet until I have the chance to take my own.

One major aspect I have not yet included in my pitch is to explain, in detail, who my target audience are. I believe that I am going to create a video and 'Prezi' to display my thoughts regarding my target audience, along with an in depth description on why I think they are the ones who will like my product the most.

Locations

  • My dressing table - angles from the mirror
  • Beach
  • Car
  • Doxford park field
  • Sunderland town bridge

  • I have decided that I will use these/similar locations in my music video, however I am still yet to take location shots with my own camera.

I have decided to shoot footage at the beach when it is sunset; I believe that the lighting is more visually appealing at that time compared to during the day. I have taken the idea of shooting the artist looking out of a train window from the music video by Sky Ferreira , however I am undecided whether or not I will use a car instead as I wish to wait until it is raining, and a car will always be available. I think it that the weather will be able to display  how the tone of the song 'Teen Idle', the song I am going to use, shifts fom positive to negative lyrics. I have decided to incporate my dressing table into my music promotion video as I believe that it fits perfectly with the lyrics and message of the song, 'I wanna be a real fake'. A possible idea is to shoot the girl in my music video applying makeup/hair extensions' I also think that a mirror allows you shoot interesting and unusual camera angles. I am using a field as it is an iddylic, peaceful surronding which will allow me to portray the message of being an 'idle teen'.

    Update on locations:
These are original images of the locations where I will shoot my video. All of the pictures have been taken in my house, apart from the one I captured whilst walking down Oxford Street in London.

    Organising cast

I have used the social networking website 'Facebook' to organise who I will use in my music promotion video. I have decided to use my friend 'Sophie Tait' as I know that she will be reliable when I organise times and dates to shoot footage. Sophie will be the only character featured in the video as she is a teenage girl. I believe that this is appropriate for the song title and lyrics. The genre of the music used in the video also appeals to teenage girls so when they watch this video they may feel as though they can relate, given that they are my target audience.

    Age: 17
    Studies: Health and social
    Occupation: Till operative at Iceland

    Makeup and hairstyles

The girl featured in my video will be wearing: false eyelashes, a flick of black eyeliner and red lipstick. I have decided that she will wear a lot of makeup as the song I am going to use,'Teen idle', has the lyric ‘I wanna be a real fake'. I have decided that my hairstyles will be simple, possibly including a bow or hairband as I want the girl featured in my video to look realistic and conventional. To ensure that I choose the most suitable hairstyle for my music promotion video I am going to do test shots in order to finalise on a particular look.
